Quick Tip
Most people will experience dry skin at some time in their lives. You will probably recognize the condition, as your skin will feel itchy, tight and rough to the touch. Here are a five easy ways to take care of the problem the minute it occurs.
Dry Facial Skin
After cleansing the skin, be sure to moisturize. In the summer you might prefer a lighter formulation. In the winter this can be changed to a more creamy consistency. As the purpose of a moisturizer is to seal in the moisture, always mist your face with water before applying.
Shorter Baths
During the winter months, there is nothing more relaxing than spending time in a hot tub. Unfortunately, this is one of the best ways to strip the oil from your skin. If you love baths, reduce the time and choose warm water instead of hot. This is also a very good time to use your favorite bath oil and a moisturizing bar of soap instead of bubble bath. Unlike the bubble bath, the oil will help to seal in the moisture. Applying a lotion over damp skin is also another good habit.
Cleansers
While choosing the right products for the bath is important, choosing the right cleanser for your face is something that you should give a great deal of thought to. Be sure to choose one that is labeled for dry facial skin. This often means that the unnecessary ingredients have been removed and replaced with extra moisturizers.
Turning Down the Heat
Another easy way to hold on to the moisture in your skin, is to turn down the thermostat. If you work several hours a day in an office, you might want to suggest that cooler temperatures are in everyone's best interest.
Dry Skin Brushing
Before your shower or bath, it is a good idea to loosen dead skin cells by body brushing. This simple technique can be accomplished by simply using circular movements with a soft brush or loofah.
